The GOOD and BAD of traveling through NICARAGUA on a MOTORCYCLE (My REAL experience)
Join me on my solo motorcycle trip through Nicaragua, an adventure full of contrasts and thrills.
I started out feeling very nervous about crossing the border from Costa Rica, but the reality was much simpler than I’d been told. Sometimes you have to experience it to truly understand it!
Once in Nicaragua, my first stop was Rivas, from where I took a ferry with my motorcycle across the impressive Lake Cocibolga (or Lake Nicaragua). My destination was the incredible Ometepe Island, famous for its two volcanoes and legends like “La Cegua.”
On the road, I encountered a new traffic law limiting the speed to 50 km/h. Although it may sound strange, I ended up enjoying the tranquility of driving without rushing. My time in Managua had two key moments: on the one hand, I went to the embassy to apply for a Guatemalan visa, a necessary procedure for my Bolivian citizenship. On the other hand, I stopped by the Bolivian consulate to say hello, where I felt right at home. It was a welcome respite from my homeland on this long journey.
But it wasn’t all easy. On the way to the beautiful city of Granada, I experienced firsthand what many bikers tell me: the police stopped me with the sole intention of asking me for money. It was a very frustrating moment that I share with you with complete honesty.
To close out my tour, I discovered the amazing story of the Huellas de Acahualinca, a remnant of ancient settlers thousands of years old. With my Guatemalan visa in hand, I’m now heading to Honduras.
Thank you for being part of this adventure. See you on the next route!
