Randy Caballero to face Jesus Ruiz on debut card of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN

Former bantamweight world titleholder Randy Caballero will face battle-tested Jesus Ruiz in the 10-round junior featherweight co-feature of the debut card of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN.

The first card of the new series will take place on March 23 (ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, 10 p.m. ET) at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

Caballero (23-0, 14 KOs), 26, of nearby Coachella, California, who will be boxing for the first time in 13 months and for the first time since he re-signed with Golden Boy, was initially scheduled to square off with Victor Proa (28-2-2, 21 KOs), 32, of Mexico. However, Golden Boy elected to upgrade the level of Caballero’s opponent and replaced Proa with the more formidable Ruiz.

Ruiz (36-7-5, 25 KOs), 27, of Mexico, has won two fights in a row since losing a 10-round decision to top prospect Diego De La Hoya, Oscar De La Hoya’s first cousin, in September 2015. Two fights before that, Ruiz challenged then-junior featherweight world titleholder Leo Santa Cruz but was knocked out in the eighth round.
