  • Hosted a Christmas party for young refugee families in Costa Rica, including passing out toys.
  • Collaborated with AbueNica to provide three months of living expenses for refugees recently released from U.S. detention centers who were waiting for approval of work permits.
  • Helping six refugees doctors in Costa Rica to obtain their license: it is a 5 months project, the purpose is to help them with basic necessities such as rent, food and transportation, so they can dedicate the time to study until the exam in Oct. 2019. All of them are committed to give back to the community by volunteering part of their time attending the refugees. Update out of 96 doctors that took this very difficult test, only one passed.
  • Helping 4 last year medical students with the fees to transfer their credits and resume medical school in Costa Rica.
  • Helping 1 dentistry student finish his last year of school.
  • Legal assistance to cases from NAHRA: Astrid is currently supervising more than 300 cases of political refugees across the country.
  • Helping in the defense of 25 affirmative asylum cases of young Nicaraguans in collaboration with Liderazgo Juvenil Nicaragüense.
  • Flight fares for Nicaraguan leaders to come to the USA to present the current situation in Nicaragua.
  • Medical supplies to students and mothers of political prisoners (Aug-Sep 2018): we sent medical supplies to the students that were wounded during the attacks, as well as to the mothers of political prisoners waiting outside El Chipote.
  • Support to lawyers defending political prisoners (Dec. 2018): We provided the defenders of political prisoners with tools to keep doing their work (transportation fees, office supplies, government fees).
  • Food for safety houses: this was carried out from Jan-Jun 2019, food was provided to 170 students that are hiding from the police
  • Helping family of journalist Gahona: Gahona’s brother and his family, were helped on getting out of Nicaragua and seeking asylum in Costa Rica, they were helped for 3 months with food and rent.
  • Collaboration with Dr. Julio Montenegro to present the human rights violations at the OAS.
  • Collaboration with NAHRA to present situation of political refugees in the US at the OAS.
