Salvadoran coffee continues to gain international recognition for its quality and flavor.
With the support of the Embassy of El Salvador in Argentina and the Salvadoran Coffee Institute (ISC), Café Martínez selected Salvadoran coffee to be featured at the 6th International Barista Championship in Buenos Aires, showcasing the excellence of beans cultivated in Tecapa and Ilamatepec.
The event gathered thousands of baristas from across Argentina, with ten semifinalists and three finalists advancing to the final round. The Pacamara and Bourbon varieties from El Salvador were used during the competition, reflecting the country’s strong presence in the global specialty coffee market.
The championship concluded with Argentine barista Federico Iacovino crowned as the winner. The award was presented by Miriam Elena Mena Gallardo, Ambassador of El Salvador to Argentina, who announced that the winner will travel to El Salvador next year to experience the Coffee Route, where he will learn about the cultivation and processing practices that make Salvadoran coffee unique.
According to Manuel Vindel, representative of the Salvadoran Coffee Institute and member of the international jury, this collaboration demonstrates how Salvadoran coffee continues to captivate connoisseurs worldwide.
This initiative, supported by President Nayib Bukele’s government, reinforces El Salvador’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and promoting coffee as both an engine of economic growth and a symbol of national identity and pride.
