The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, August 28 at 10:00 EDT (14:00 GMT) in Simon Bolívar Hall at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C., to analyze the “political and social crisis in Nicaragua” and to discuss a “Resolution on the Human Rights Situation in Venezuela,” among other topics.

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) today approved a Resolution on the Appointment of a Commission on Nicaragua, in compliance with the mandate of the General Assembly of the Organization. The Commission will carry out “diplomatic efforts at the highest level to seek a peaceful and effective solution to the political and social crisis in Nicaragua,” and will submit a report to the Permanent Council within a maximum of 75 days.
This Commission will be comprised of the following members:
The resolution was approved with 21 votes in favor (Argentina, The Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Uruguay and Venezuela), 3 votes against (Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname), 8 abstentions (Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Dominica, Guatemala, Mexico, and Trinidad and Tobago) and 2 countries absent(Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis).
